Our Band Director

Noelle Imel – Director of Bands

Noelle Imel is in her first year as Director of Bands at Northwood High School. At Northwood, Ms. Imel directs the Marching Chargers, the Wind Ensemble, the Symphonic Band, the Concert Band, the Musical Pit, and the Jazz Band. Ms. Imel also teaches the AP Music Theory course offered at Northwood in the spring.

Originally from a military family, Ms. Imel has lived all around the United States from New York, to Hawaii, to Georgia, and now North Carolina. She completed her studies at Georgia Southern University in 2020 with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and in 2024 earned a Master of Music in Music Education from Georgia Southern’s Gretsch School of Music. 

Before coming to Northwood, she was the Band Director at Beaufort Middle School in Beaufort, NC and then Director of Bands at Fike High School in Wilson, NC. She has served as a music and visual technician for multiple band programs through the southeastern United States and actively performs.

Ms. Imel currently performs on trumpet with Wilson’s Moonlight Swing Band and serves as trumpet section leader for The Triangle Pride Band. She has conducted research on beginning teachers’ experiences teaching secondary instruments and presented research at the 2024 Georgia Music Educators Association Conference. Her professional affiliations include NAfME, Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity, Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity, and Women Band Directors International.
